MSHA encourages mining industry to use e-filing
Required forms can be filed at agency's Web site

ARLINGTON, Va. - The U.S. Department of Labor's Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) is urging all miners, mine operators and independent contractors to file their required forms at MSHA's Web site at www.msha.gov.

"Online filing is fast, secure and easy, and will increase the overall efficiency of your mining operation," said acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Mine Safety and Health Richard E. Stickler in a letter to the mining industry. "Whether you want to update your legal identity report, request an independent contractor identification number, report a mine hazard or submit employment and production information, you can simplify the process by using MSHA's online filing service," he wrote.

Mine operators and independent contractors can use MSHA's online filing service to complete forms and supply much of the information federal law requires they submit to the agency. In addition to filing forms, users may update forms to add information or make corrections. An online filing helpline - 877-778-6055 - is available to assist users who may have questions or problems with the online filing process.

MSHA estimates that only 60 percent of mine operations nationwide currently take advantage of e-filing.

To file forms electronically, visit MSHA's Web site at www.msha.gov and go to "Online Tools."
