#25 - Blasting
Extreme care and caution should be exercised during any and all blasting activities at your mining operation. The very act of blasting - a controlled explosion at the worksite-dictates that every precaution must be taken to avoid injuries.

Hello, I'm Bob Friend with the Mine Safety and Health Administration.

Operators of underground coal mines and gassy underground metal and nonmetal mines are reminded to use only permissible blasting units and permissible explosives when blasting at their mine site.

MSHA regulations require that underground shots must be fired only in confined boreholes.

    Always use proper stemming material.

Always ensure that other miners are positioned a safe distance away from the blasting area and out of the direct line of fire.

Lastly, be sure that explosives are secured and stored in a well-constructed magazine and properly accounted for.

Be sure to follow these guidelines consistently.

    Thank you for listening.
