SLAM Risks
Hello, I'm Bob Friend with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Yes we want you to SLAM all risks of injury and accidental fatalities at mine sites. SLAM is the acronym for Stop-Look-Analyze-and Manage. When conducting a workplace task, miners should STOP and think about the job their assigned to do. Can it be done alone? What skills do you need? Miners should LOOK for and identify any hazard involved in the task. What steps are needed? Where is the potential hazard in each of those steps? We then ask that you ANALYZE how best to get the job done. Do you have the proper tools? What are the safest procedures? Lastly we ask that you MANAGE each step of the task. Develop the steps you can take to minimize the chance of an injury. Work smart and safe. We can put an end to many accidents when miners SLAM risks in the work environment. Think carefully about your work before you do it-then do it safely. Thank you for listening. |
