    Rule 27 - Posted 05/11/2009
      Q. After you have gone underground can the plane be broken and gas checks made before making the team check at 50' stop?
      A. Examination must be made at the first team stop/50' stop - The rule does not state that other work cannot be done first during this stop.

    Rule 29 - Posted 05/11/2009
      Q. The formula for Rule 29(F) can lead to a discount much greater than 15 points. How will this be interpreted?
      A. Leave the rule as it is. It will be a 15 point maximum for each different occurrence.

    Rule 30 - Posted 05/11/2009
      Q. In the event of withdrawal situation - does the team go the fastest way outside - The rule reads as if you have to follow lifeline out? Can you go out faster way?
      A. The way the rule is written, you must follow your lifeline out of the mine.

      Q. Can there be a placard outside a barricade with just low oxygen and no other gas?
      A. Methane and oxygen must be shown on the same placard only for an explosive mixture. For contest purposes, an explosive mixture can only be a combination of methane and oxygen.

      Q. Could either of those gases on a placard be shown as 0%?
      A. What ever the problem designer puts on placard is what it is.

      Q. If non-explosive - can you put methane or oxygen on placard by itself?
      A. Yes. Methane and oxygen must be on the same placard only for explosive mixtures.

      Q. If you come to barricade and placard only has 18% oxygen and no methane - do you disregard the placard?
      A. Do not disregard. Methane and oxygen must be on the same placard only for explosive mixtures.

      Q. How will the last paragraph of Rule 30(b) be interpreted this year?
      A. The last paragraph of 30(B) should omit the words "or energized cables".

      Q. Does methane and oxygen have to be shown on all placards if there is not an explosive mixture?
      A. Methane and oxygen must be on the same placard only for explosive mixtures.

    Rule 41(b) - Posted 06/03/2009
      Q. Team finds a live conscious man inside a barricade which does not have an irrespirable atmosphere in front of it.
      A. See Answer

    Rule 42 - Posted 05/11/2009
      Q. In past it was interpreted that team had to enter area where water was being pumped through airlock. Is this correct?
      A. The rule does not state that you do not have to go through airlock where the water is being pumped.

    Rule 44 - Posted 05/11/2009
      Q. If you're in an intersection and you encounter contaminant in both directions - left and right - which direction should you go?
      A. If no other contaminant was found in an adjacent entry - then team could go either way.

      Q. If you're coming across from entry #3 to entry #2 - do you tie behind or continue across to the other entry?
      A. Team must tie behind before continuing across.

    Rule 45 - Posted 05/11/2009
      Q. If you have overcast with a hole in it and you want to ventilate over it, can you plug the hole?
      A. If it has a hole - then it is not intact or airtight - this will require you to block the area to prevent air from moving through.

    Rule 48 - Posted 04/02/2009
      Q. If the team builds a Temporary over the air clear placard should the gas be cleared?
      Q. How many discount points do you give a team that misses a roof check...
      Q. The team has made all three openings and travels to first crosscut in No. 2 Entry. Is the team required to tie across and behind into # 3 next?
      Q. Rule 18 states that each ventilation change made by a back-up team will require two minutes. Can the ventilation change be, for example, “remove three stoppings, build two stoppings, and close regulator” or is each individual item a ventilation change itself?

    Rule 50 - Posted 05/11/2009
      Q. Is that a 15 point discount for each infraction?
      A. Each time the written instructions are not followed will be discounted 15 points. There is no maximum.

      Q. In problem statement, it states explore only areas required to account for all missing persons. So if you go behind barricade and patient is 5' from face and captain comes there to where patient is does he have to stop there or can he/she continue to face?
      A. We encourage local contests to have problems that will not contradict national contest rules. However, teams must follow written instructions to the letter at local contests.
