Rules Governing 2009 Mine Rescue Contests

- Interpretations Of A Card
    Rule 5 - Posted 05/08/2009

      Q. "X" denoting object found - If a map man drew a line from the "X" to the description to pair the two up, will he be discounted?
      A. If map man put it on for clarity it would be acceptable. Should be just a line - do not include an arrow.

      Q. If you mark X and enter description, is it acceptable to use a highlighter or color code to make it easily seen?
      A. As long as the writing is clearly legible - there should not be any discounts given for this.

      Q. If you find a permanent stopping that has been completely destroyed - do you have to put that on map?
      A. If there is an symbol that is shown in the legend for any object or condition, then you have to show that symbol on the map.

      Q. If you rebuild a completely destroyed stopping - do you have to note it as rebuilt or temporary stopping?
      A. All newly erected structures built by team shall be mapped as a temporary stopping. Addition by Chief Judge: REMOVE THE WORDS "FOUND INTACT" THAT WAS ADDED TO THIS RULE 5 ON PAGE 9

      Q. On the rule - conditions not intact - if you find line curtain that is destroyed - do you denote with X or leave out?
      A. The legend on page 41 indicates that the condition of the line curtain is to be noted beside the symbol.

      Q. Give us your definition of "intact".
      A. Intact means no indication of openings or leaking, defined in legend on page 40.

      Q. Refuge chambers haven't been addressed yet. Will they be treated as a barricade?
      A. Since this is not addressed in the rules, do not use refuge chambers this year. It will be addressed in the rules next year.

      Q. How would you map refuge chamber if in problem?
      A. Not applicable. Refuge chambers should not be used this year.

      (Added 06/16/2009)
Q: Is the team required to draw-in the rib lines on a dotted-line map?
A: It may be useful for the team.
However, Interpretations of A Cards, Rule 5, states,"The six foot tolerance will not apply to pillar blocks drawn in projected areas . . . "
This stipulates that the team may draw them in on the map, but can not be discounted for accuracy or for failure to draw them in.
