JOHN SYKES

JOHN SYKES
John began his mining career at Allied Chemical, which is now Tata Chemicals in 1975 and quickly became a member of the mine rescue team. He started as a gasman and eventually became the captain of the Black Team that won multiple competitions, including 2nd place at the national competition in 1998. John was appointed to team trainer where he has trained several national champions in both the bench first aid competitions and had multiple first place teams in other regional competitions. He was the captain of the team that responded to the collapse at the Solvay Mine in 1995 and has served on the National Metal and Nonmetal Advisory Committee. John is sadly missed but always remembered by the mine rescue community.
