WALTER MORTIMER

Walter Mortimer began his mining career in 1975 with Stauffer Chemical in Green River, Wyoming. He became a member of the mine rescue team four years later and held various positions including assistant trainer. Walt participated in 22 regional contests, 10 National Mine Rescue contests, and actively participated as a rescue team member in 4 mine emergencies over his career, including the successful recovery of a trapped miner in 1982. The Mine Safety and Health Administration is presenting this award posthumously because Mr. Mortimer passed in 2005 following a lengthy illness.
