REVISING ELECTRICAL PRODUCT APPROVAL REGULATIONS Priority: Substantive, Nonsignificant Legal Authority: 30 USC 957 CFR Citation: 30 CFR 7, 17, 18, 22, 23, and 27 Legal Deadline: None Abstract: Part 18 of 30 CFR, entitled ``Electric Motor-Driven Mine Equipment and Accessories,'' sets out the requirements to obtain MSHA approval of electrically operated machines and accessories intended for use in underground gassy mines, as well as other related matters, such as approval procedures, certification of components, and acceptance of flame-resistant hoses and conveyor belts. Aside from minor modifications, part 18 has been largely unchanged since it was promulgated in 1968. This update of part 18 is intended to improve the efficiency of the approval process, recognize new technology, add quality assurance provisions, and address existing policies through the rulemaking process.
