District 1 Poster Contest

MSHA's District 1 office challenged students in northeastern Pennsylvania schools to a poster contest again this year. Students were asked to create poster-sized images depicting the many dangers one may encounter on mine properties.

All submissions were judged by MSHA employees and the District 1 SOSA Coordinator, Patrick Boylan (center), who presented the winners with a trophy and certificate of achievement.

Grades K-2
  • FIRST PLACE - Brandon Schwartz, Kindergarten, St. Jude's, Mountaintop
  • SECOND PLACE - Emma Coccio, 2nd grade, St. Jerome's, Tamaqua
  • THIRD PLACE - Brynn Gigli, 2nd grade, St. Jerome's, Tamaqua
Grades 3-5
  • FIRST PLACE - Neha Metgud, 4th grade, Wilkes-Barre Academy, Wilkes-Barre
  • SECOND PLACE - Skyler Fulmer, 3rd grade, St. Jerome's, Tamaqua
  • THIRD PLACE - Maizy Troxell, 4th grade, St. Jerome's, Tamaqua
Grades 6-8
  • FIRST PLACE - Abby Pilla, 6th grade, St. Jerome's, Tamaqua
  • SECOND PLACE - Annette Ritzko, 7th grade, St. Jerome's, Tamaqua
