Boy Suffers Head Injury After Jumping Off Quarry Cliff
A 14-year-old Illinois boy suffered a head injury after he jumped off a cliff at Quarry Lake on Friday night, police said.
The boy had jumped off from 30 or 40 feet, hit his head and was unconscious in the water for a few seconds before someone pulled him out at about 8:02 p.m., Racine County Sheriff's Sgt. David Coughlin said.
The boy was taken to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, 3801 Spring St. Mount Pleasant police, Caledonia and South Shore Fire and Rescue responded.
There were about a dozen citations for trespassing issued Friday, mostly to teenagers from Illinois, Coughlin said.
Police reminded the public that the lake is closed to cliff diving.
More signs about trespassing beyond the beach and pier had been put up this spring, but Coughlin said deputies have already given out multiple citations at the lake for trespassing, though he believed Friday's incident was the first rescue call.
Ultimately, somebody is going to die, Coughlin said.
