Teen Critically Injured After Fall into Quarry
A 16-year-old male remains in critical condition after falling approximately 25 feet at an abandoned quarry.
After swimming in the quarry, the teen, his younger brother, and two friends began climbing up the 40-foot cliff to leave the pit. The victim was the last to climb up and fell when a rock beneath his foot gave way.
The boys used a t-shirt to restrict the blood flowing from the unconscious victim's head until police officers, firefighters, and EMS arrived. A helicopter carried the boy to the hospital where doctors found he suffered a skull fracture, a broken eye socket, and a broken leg.
'he quarry's not a place to play. It's a dangerous place,' Officer Eric Burt said.'There's a big fence around it for a reason. Even if there [are] holes in it, it's still not meant to get into because incidents like this can happen.'
