07/27/2004 Firefighters in Hallowell, Maine, spent more than an hour hoisting an injured teenager up a 54-foot rock face, after he jumped from the ledge at an illegal swimming spot. Police say the 19-year-old swimmer of Lewiston was with a group of teens at the quarry Tuesday when he made the jump. They say he apparently suffered a head injury but was alert and talking when rescue workers hoisted him up over the cliff at 2:30 p.m. He complained of nausea, headache and difficulty breathing. One of the teenagers at the swimming hole, who was trained as a lifeguard, assisted Beauchesne until rescue workers arrived at the scene. (Source: Associated Press) |
