A 27-year old man riding an off-road vehicle fell down an abandoned mine shaft on Bureau of Land Management lands near Lake Elsinore, Calif. The man had been riding his four-wheel'quad' off-highway vehicle on public lands when he drove into a mine shaft and fell about 40 feet. A second man, who had been riding a motorcycle with the victim, witnessed the accident and called local emergency services. Fire and medical personnel responded taking nearly seven hours to extract the man.
