Two Drown at Kansas Quarry

Two men drowned while ice fishing in a rock quarry near Valley Falls, Kansas. Vernon Barrow, 65 and, William Slater, 55, drowned after apparently falling through the ice while fishing in an area once known as Baker’s Quarry less than 2 miles east of Valley Falls. According to the local sheriff, it appeared that one of the men managed to swim under the ice up to the shore but couldn't make it out. Local police estimate the water to be at least 50 feet deep.
