A 19 year-old Indiana man who nearly drowned while trying to swim across a gravel pit just east of the city has died.

Authorities said the victim began struggling while trying to swim across the gravel pit. He disappeared beneath the water for several minutes before a bystander pulled him to shore, authorities said.
