A 15-year-old boy drowned Sunday while swimming with friends at a lake quarry off Boardman Road, authorities said.
The victim was swimming with three friends about 6 p.m. when he became distressed, said Chief Deputy Phil Little with the Bladen County Sheriff's Office. Divers recovered his body shortly before 10 p.m.
The lake quarry covers about 4 acres and the water depth ranges from 3 feet to 30 feet, Little said.
The victim and one of the other boys became distressed while in the water, Little said. The other two boys went back into the water and got the other boy, he said.
