06/21/2002 An 18-year-old Northwest, Ind., man swimming in an abandoned stone quarry near Momence drowned apparently after becoming fatigued. The man was swimming with two friends in the quarry when he yelled about a muscle cramp and then went under the water, according to witnesses. His body was found on a ledge 84 feet from the bank, where the quarry was 45 feet deep. (Source: Chicago Tribune, 6/23/02) |
