A 30-year-old man who jumped approximately 80 feet off the highest cliff of an old strip pit drowned after slipping out of the grasp of a fellow swimmer. The victim and three friends dove into the water to escape the summer heat. He came to the surface, and started swimming back to the edge of the hole when something happened. The Foster Township, Pa., swimming hole has an ominous history as a rite of passage for many local youths. (Source: Republican Herald)
