07-19-2004 An 18-year-old Oswego, Kan., woman and her father drowned in a strip pit in rural southeast Kansas. Officials said the young woman was swimming around 5:30 p.m. when she began struggling. Her father jumped in to help her, but also got into trouble. By the time rescue crews arrived, she was dead. Her 54-year-old father was flown to a Joplin, Mo., hospital, where he later died. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said that the female victim's 23-year-old brother also jumped in to help. He was taken by ambulance to the Joplin hospital, where he was treated and released.
