The Georgia Mine Safety and Health Training Program is a function of the Technical College System of Georgia. The purpose of the Georgia Mine Safety and Health Training Program is to assist mine operators and mining contractors with their training and retraining of miners to prevent or reduce the frequency and severity of injuries in the Georgia mining industry. The State conducts training classes at various sites. Most are on-site at the mine or plant in areas such as training rooms, or lunch/break rooms. Other training sites include classrooms at local Technical Institutes and hotel meeting rooms. Other types of training assistance is provided through the Mine Safety Resource Center at Oconee Fall Line Technical College. Each program that is to be delivered at a specific mine is planned at a conference with company personnel.
Each year, the 30 CFR part 46 and 48 Annual Refresher training course is rewritten to reflect the needs of the miners and contract employees and to address the concerns and identified health and safety problems of the mining industry.
The Georgia Mine Safety and Health Program conducts classes in:
- 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training (English and Spanish);
- 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher (English and Spanish);
- 30 CFR parts 56 and 57 Training; and
- Cooperative Instructor Training.
