Through the Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training, the State of West Virginia provides the miners, mine operators and contractors working on mine properties, a comprehensive training program which educates the mining personnel on the many health and safety hazards found in the mining environments.
The program provides training and assistance to the mining industry by means of the following courses:
- 30 CFR Part 49 Mine Rescue Training;
- State Certification Program;
- Initial training and testing for Qualified Mine Electricians and annual retraining for electrical qualifications;
- Supervisory Certification Program; and
- the Comprehensive Mine Safety Program which addresses requirements for operators and contractors regarding training, maintenance of equipment, personal protective equipment, accident prevention, accident investigation, statement of company safety policy, and company enforcement of program. Prevention of Silicosis.
