The Loveridge No. 22 Mine has been sealed at the surface openings since June 22, 1999 to extinguish an underground fire in the 2 Left off 8 North area of the mine. After sealing, the mine atmosphere stabilized at 25 - 45 percent methane, less than 3 percent oxygen and 10 - 20 ppm CO.
