November 1 through November 15, 1999

On November 2, screening and bolting of the roof and face continued using two roof bolting machines. One bolter began supporting the face from the headgate to midface, and the second operated from midface to the tailgate. Support of the face and roof was completed on November 4. On November 5, the first shield was removed from the tailgate. Walking shields were placed on the tailgate on November 6. Initial conditions on the face were difficult and shield removal was slow. Soft bottom, steep grades, and areas of poor roof conditions were overcome and by November 12, the final shield was removed from the face.
