A Serious Accident
A serious accident occurred on September 20, 2004 at approximately 4:45 p.m., when a loaded Ford tandem coal haulage truck's transmission came out of gear as it was descending a steep grade. The truck proceeded downgrade approximately 1000 feet before overturning into a shallow sediment ditch. The driver was hospitalized with five broken ribs, a bruised lung, a bruised kidney and numerous other bruises.
- Be aware of the roadway grade before descending
- Check the gear position before descending steep grades
- Before descending a steep grade check brakes and air pressure
- Maintain brakes in good operating condition
