A Narrow Escape
On August 4, 2006, a non-fatal accident occurred at approximately 6:25 a.m. A coal truck was traveling down an approximate 12 % grade when the transmission came out of gear allowing the truck to run away. The truck traveled approximately 0.4 miles before striking a tree and overturning. The driver was trapped in the truck cab for approximately 30 minutes before being extricated. The driver sustained minor injuries.
- Maintain proper brake adjustment.
- Be aware of load limits.
- Never attempt gear changing while traveling down grade.
- Maintain control of vehicle.
