A Very Close Call
On August 10, 2004, an accident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. when a 789 hauler was traveling up an approximate 4% grade. While negotiating a right switchback, the 789 hauler was struck in the left front side by a 785 hauler traveling downgrade in the switchback. This collision resulted in an immediate fire in the engine compartment area of the 789 hauler resulting in loss of both haulers.
