SUBJECT: Withdrawal of MSHA Approval 2G-2239 and NIOSH Approval
TC-74-105 for Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) Model G Sampling Pumps
Who needs this information?
Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) personnel, coal and metal and nonmetal mine operators, miners' representatives, and repair shop facilities.
Why is MSHA issuing this bulletin?
To inform the industry of withdrawal of MSHA Approval 2G-2239 and NIOSH Approval TC-74-015 for the MSA Model G Sampling Pump.
What is the background for this withdrawal action?
MSA requested the subject approvals be withdrawn when notified that MSHA personnel have found Model G pumps being used in a non-approved condition. The MSHA investigation revealed that incorrect parts were being installed during repair in the field. MSA discontinued sales of the Model G pumps in 1991 and approved replacement parts are no longer available.
What is the effect of withdrawal of these approvals?
These units cannot be used to collect respirable coal mine dust samples as required by Title 30 Code of Federal Regulations (30 CFR) Parts 70, 71 and 90 nor can they be utilized in areas where permissible equipment is required.
Who can I contact at MSA?
Please contact MSA Customer Service at 1-800-MSA-2222.
