Near Misses
Incidents that could have resulted in a fatality, but did not.

03/31/2009
A hike to legendary Bedford landmark Stack Rock went awry for a couple of area teens, when a 17-year-old fell off a ledge and was stuck about 15 or 20 feet from the bottom of the quarry.

Fortunately the victim and his friend had sense enough to call 911, after he fell about 12 feet to the ledge and secured himself from falling to the bottom by grabbing a tree.

Bedford Police Department officers arrived and tossed the teenager a rope until Bedford firefighters arrived and were able to rappel the ledge and rescue Minton, averting what could have ended in disaster.

The Mitchell teenager suffered only minor scrapes.
