"Near Miss" Accident Information File

05/23/2004
Three North Stafford, Va., teens parked their car, jumped over a locked gate onto private property and went swimming in the dark near a rock quarry upstream from Embrey Dam in the Fredericksburg area. Emergency personnel had to be called to rescue two of the teens. One of the boys, 16, had been swept away by strong currents and was believed to have suffered broken ribs. He was found on the Stafford shore. The other, an 18-year-old boy, was found standing in an eddy. Along with a 16-year-old girl, they were arrested for trespassing.
