Missing Lothian man's body found in water at old quarry

The body of a missing Lothian man was found yesterday afternoon in the old quarry where he was last seen swimming Tuesday night, county police said.

Someone spotted the 47 year-old victim and called 911.

He was last seen alive when he went swimming with friends in a pond in an old sand pit. One of his friends called 911 at 9:13 p.m. and said he was drowning.

Firefighters and police searched the area for nearly two hours that night, assisted by two police helicopters, but found nothing.

The next day, firefighters used cadaver dogs to search for him, but they said it was too dangerous to send divers into the water because of the "murky bottom."
