Alaska State Trooper divers recovered the body of a Fairbanks man who apparently drowned in a North Pole pond. Witnesses said the 37-year-old victim was swimming across the pond when he went under the water. Other swimmers unsuccessfully tried rescuing him. The pond, a former gravel pit, is about 25 feet deep. Troopers say alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the incident.
