A 27-year-old female Coast Guardsman was killed in an ATV accident in Bell's Flat, Alaska. Medics responded to the scene of the accident, an active gravel pit, to find the Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., resident not breathing and without a pulse. The Alaska State Troopers investigation into the incident determined the woman was riding the ATV up and down the gravel piles and while riding up one of the piles, the ATV's front wheels came up and the ATV rolled backward over the woman. She was riding without a helmet and sustained serious head injuries in the accident. The woman was transported to Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
