Mine Fire Preparedness Initiative

This material has been developed by a team composed of members from MSHA Technical Support and Coal Mine Safety and Health as part of a program to help reduce mine fires at coal mines. The program has been designed to increase the awareness among miners and mine operators regarding "Best Practices", covering a wide range of topics that can help all mining personnel prevent and be better prepared to respond to mine fire situations.

"Best Practices" Cards have been developed on a variety of subjects pertaining to fire protection and mine emergency operations. These cards include a statement regarding the particular practice, tips, best practices, examples of events relevant to the each particular practice, and graphics depicting the practice.
