Here's an example of a device that allows drivers to pull underneath, climb the stairs, and lower this little drawbridge. At the end of the drawbridge there is a white lanyard that attaches to a safety belt. As the driver walks back and forth on top of the truck, the lanyard travels along the I-beam and provides fall protection. This particular method is not an MSHA requirement, but if they’re going to get up there, they have to be protected.
