Final Rule for Examination of Working Places in Metal and Nonmetal Mines

The Mine Safety and Health Administration announces a final rule that will enhance the quality of working place examinations in metal and nonmetal mines. The final rule improves miners' safety and health by requiring mine operators to: 1) conduct working place examinations to identify conditions that may adversely affect safety or health before work begins in that place; ( 2) notify miners in affected areas of conditions found and promptly initiate appropriate action to correct such conditions; and (3) record the date of the examination, locations examined, adverse conditions found, and dates of corrective action.
