This is an open invitation to all stakeholders to the inaugural meeting of the Diesel Exhaust Health Effects Partnership sponsored by MSHA and NIOSH.  This partnership will provide a forum for the exchange of scientific findings to date on the health effects of diesel exhaust and for a review of approaches that may enhance control of diesel particulate matter and diesel exhaust exposures to improve protections for miners in underground coal and metal and nonmetal mines.

Following this meeting, MSHA will discuss with coal mine operators options related to refuge alternatives, the need for incorporating voice communications in closed circuit emergency respirators (CCERs), and the impact of the August 2015 changes to CCER approvals on coal mine operators in January 2017.  Contact mcconnell.sheila.a@dol.gov, if you have any questions.
