Institute of Makers of Explosives

Alliance Signed: June 14, 2016

Renewed: March 17, 2020, and October 17, 2023

MSHA executives attended the Institute of Makers of Explosives (IME) meeting in June 2016, and there signed the first Alliance agreeing to work cooperatively on issues regarding explosives safety in the mining industry.  Since then the Alliance has been renewed twice, most recently in 2023.  MSHA leverages IME’s expertise to develop, distribute and promote educational and safety training resources on explosive and blasting materials.  IME regularly presents programs at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy and distributes MSHA Safety Alerts and other safety resources throughout its network.  MSHA and IME jointly develop and disseminate best practices to stakeholders who use explosives and contract blasting services.  Agency and IME representatives attend, speak and exhibit at MSHA, IME and other mining industry conferences and meetings.
