The South Carolina Mine Safety Program aims to educate those who partake in mining operations by assisting mining companies and mining contractors in South Carolina with their health and safety training. In an effort to do so, Tri-County Technical College has partnered with the Mine Safety and Health Administration, (MSHA), whose mission is to prevent death, disease and injuries in the mining industry. 

The Training Programs offered at Tri-County Technical College can be taught on the Campus of the College or conducted at the mine or contractor site when requested. Training Classes are scheduled to provide as much company and/or contractor-specific and mine-specific/on-site training as possible. Training Program Content is developed in coordination with company training plans, company management and in-house safety staff to achieve the best match with their needs.

Tri County Technical College will provide two major components of mining safety as part of 30 CFR part 46 or 48.

The listed offerings:

30 CFR Part 46 covers the above ground aggregate industry operations, metal and non-metal.  Also included is the following:

  • New Miner – 30 CFR Part 46
  • Refresher – 30 CFR Part 46
  • First Aid Code 30 CFR §57.18010 /CPR/AED

30 CFR Part 48 covers all underground industry operations, coal, metal and non-metal. It also includes the following:

  • New Miner – 30 CFR Part 48
  • Refresher – 30 CFR Part 48

-First Aid Code 30 CFR §57.18010/CPR/AED  

In addition, the following subjects are covered:

  • Supervisor Training
  • Technical Audits/Inspections
  • Fire Safety
  • Electrical Training
  • Mine Safety and Health Evaluation

Training in Tri-County’s program prepares mining operations workers across the nation and its associated territories for a twelve-month period. Refresher courses are available for those needing to renew their certifications in 30 CFR Part 46 or Part 48 supporting the annual re-certification. All students that complete the classes will receive recognized documentation in accordance of the Federal Government regulation 30 CFR Part 46 or Part 48.

Due to COVID Restrictions, class sizes are limited to accommodate social distancing.
