The program trains miners and contract employees working at small, often remotely located mining operations. Training courses include Federally required 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Underground and Surface New Miner Training, and Underground and Surface Annual Refresher. Each training class includes special emphasis on mine specific health and safety topics such as:

  • awareness of the hazards of exposure to silica;
  • dust control;
  • special concerns for mining in Permafrost conditions;
  • hypothermia;
  • machine guarding;
  • power generation and use;
  • remote site medical emergencies;
  • prevention of slips, trips, and falls;
  • hearing protection;
  • mobile equipment and haulage with special emphasis on loading and haulage truck accidents;
  • berms and highwalls; and
  • night operations.

Training courses are offered year-round. On-site mine specific training is available upon request.
