Description:

The 107(a) Orders data set contains information on § 107(a) orders issued by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). These orders are issued when inspectors identify imminent dangers at a mine site and require immediate action.

What’s in the Data Set:

Each record includes key details about the mine, operator, contractor, and the order itself.

  • Mine details: 
    • MINE ID
    • MINE NAME
    • STATE
  • Operator, contractor, and controller information:
    • OPERATOR NAME
    • CONTROLLER NAME
    • CONTRACTOR NAME
  • Type of violator (operator or contractor)
  • Order details:
    • VIOLATION NO.
    • VIOLATION DATE
    • TERMINATION DATE
  • Mine type (coal or metal/non-metal)

Notes:

  • Orders that were later vacated (voided) are not included.
  • The data set can be linked to other data sets using key field:
    • Mine ID – to connect it with the Mines data
