The Navajo Nation is located within the borders of three states: Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The nation is approximately the size of West Virginia.

The training program conducts classes for miners and contract employees working on the mining operations leased by the Navajo Nation. The purpose of the training is to educate and make miners and mine operators aware of the many health and safety hazards related to the mining industry. Assistance is provided for compliance with applicable sections of Federal and Tribal mine safety and health regulations. The program conducts job safety analysis (JSA) to train miners to anticipate and eliminate safety hazards.

Classes include:

  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training;
  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher Training;
  • Hazard Training (as requested); and
  • Tobacco, Alcohol, and Other Drug Abuse Training.

The program is also responsible for periodically inspecting the mines on the Navajo Nation.
