Limestone Underground - A miner was reaching through a handrail to clean up debris from under a pallet elevator in a bagging plant. When the pallet elevator came down, it hit him causing head and facial injuries. The miner was able to walk to another floor and get first aid assistance from coworkers.

Best Practices
  • Establish and discuss safe work procedures. Identify and control hazards associated with working near belt conveyors to properly protect miners.
  • Task train miners to recognize and eliminate all potential hazardous conditions and understand safe job procedures before beginning work..
  • Do not place yourself in a position that will expose you to hazards while performing a task.
  • Monitor personnel routinely to determine that safe work procedures are followed.
