Each spring, the mining industry hosts cooperative safety and health training workshops around the nation to:
- increase awareness and recognition of mining hazards
- improve hazard correction
- encourage safe work practices.
At these events, safety professionals from mining and equipment companies, associations, and the
Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) share information on a range of mining hazards. While
MSHA does not sponsor these events, we encourage miners to take advantage of those offered in your
area, in-person or virtual.
Mining accidents tend to increase as winter begins to wane and many intermittently- operated mining
operations resume production, often with new or inexperienced employees who are not as intently
focused on the hazards of mining as they should be.
These seminars are not MSHA-sponsored.
