The MSHA Digital Library features materials related to the Mine Safety and Health Administration’s mission of ensuring the health and safety of the nation’s miners. These collections include historical and modern mining photographs, research materials, videos, and mine fatality reports for both Coal and Metal/Nonmetal dating back to the 1840s.

This MSHA Digital Library mine fatality report collection includes full text reports of over 30,000 Agency investigations of Coal and Metal/Nonmetal mining fatalities dating back to 1840. These investigation reports may include photographs, newspaper accounts and other materials. 

 

The MSHA Digital Library Research Materials collection includes full text documents produced by the Bureau of Mines, MESA, and MSHA since 1910

The MSHA Digital Library Research Materials collection includes full text documents produced by the Bureau of Mines, MESA, and MSHA since 1910. This collection includes both training materials and research materials related to mine safety and health. This collection will be updated regularly.

These photographs cover a wide range of topics connected to mining, including underground, community, mine rescue, and historical scenes. New images are added to the collection on a regular basis.
