Mine Rescue Contests

Mine rescue contests are designed to sharpen skills and test the knowledge of team members who would be called on to respond to a mine emergency. The contest requires team members to solve a hypothetical problem while being timed and observed by judges according to complex rules.

  • The 2020 Coal Mine Rescue Rules training and the meeting in regards to the “future format” of mine rescue competitions that were scheduled to be conducted on April 1 & 2 at the National Mine Health & Safety Academy in Beckley, WV are cancelled due to the continuing precautions being taken regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.  Although there are minimal changes to the rules this year, please review them and if you have any questions or concerns, email Ron Burns at Burns.Ronald@dol.gov by April 15, 2020.
